Mellon Centre for Migration Studies -The Ulster American Folk Park
The Mellon Centre for Migration Studies, based at the Ulster American Folk Park, is a research library which collects material relating to the history of the people of Ireland worldwide.
Their extensive resources include the world’s leading specialist collection of books on Irish migration history and the Irish Emigration Database, which contains over 33,000 primary source documents that are free-text searchable. Passenger lists and emigrant letters are particularly popular with visitors for searching, perhaps in a bid to find an ancestor named among them.
The Centre’s Library is part of the Northern Ireland’s public library service. Centre staff are at hand to assist visitors with any enquiries while Internet access is available, as well as the opportunity to print out or make photocopies of documents of interest.
With access to a reference collection of over 17,000 volumes, journals, maps, newspapers, computers and the Centre's Irish Emigration Database, the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies is a must see for historians and those who may be tracing their family roots alike.
